
The Philippines marks its 110th day of independence from Spanish colonial rule. Spain ruled over the Philippines for 333 years, which ended only when America "purchased" the Philippines from Spain for 20 million dollars. Then the Philippines remained an American colony for the next 48 years, then was occupied by Japan for 3 years until they surrendered to General MacArthur and his allied forces in 1945. Filipinos finally had their own Republic for themselves, and the Philippines feebly tried to stand on her own two feet.
